CEMETERY INFO

Trees and headstones in a cemetery.

Each cemetery will have a policy on what they allow on their grounds. You'll need to purchase a grave space before ordering your monument or marker. Minnesota & Wisconsin Memorials will make sure your design is cemetery-approved and cemetery-compliant before your contract is signed and your payment is made.

What are some examples of cemetery regulations?

1. Marker size and style restrictions

  • Does the cemetery allow upright or slant markers, or do they only allow flat markers?
  • Are there any height, width, thickness, or base size restrictions?
  • Confirm whether the marker goes at the head or foot of the grave and if there are rules about centering or spacing.

2. Material and design guidelines

  • Do they restrict materials to granite only? Is bronze acceptable?
  • Are there rules about granite colors, bronze oxidation, or polished versus rough-cut edges?
  • How about artwork, text, emblems, and religious symbols?
  • Are attached flower vases allowed?

3. Fees, permits, and installation

  • Are we allowed to install the stone and pour the foundation, or must their staff do it?
  • Are there any mandatory cemetery charges?
  • Does the cemetery need to approve the design proof before the stone is manufactured?

Minnesota & Wisconsin Memorials asks these tough questions so you can put your mind at ease.
